I Gave Up 22 Years of My Life Raising My Triplet Nieces – What They Did at Their College Graduation Made Me Drop to My Knees

I don’t remember walking out.

For two decades, I’d called it a sacrifice.

But standing in that quiet apartment, I finally understood it wasn’t. It was the life I’d chosen. And somewhere along the way, it had chosen me back.

I sat down on the couch, picked up my phone, and scrolled to a number I hadn’t dialed in 12 years.

Diana.

I pressed call before I could talk myself out of it.

She answered on the second ring.

THE OLD PHONE I GAVE MY SEVEN-YEAR-OLD SON WAS SUPPOSED TO BE USED ONLY IF SOMETHING HAPPENED TO ME INSTEAD, HE USED IT TO CALL THE POLICE BECAUSE I WOULDN’T LET HIM HAVE ICE CREAM BEFORE DINNER.
I expected the officer to laugh and leave.

But after asking my son a few questions, he noticed something on our freezer calendar.
