The access request originated from a computer connected to the county’s administrative network.
Marianne stared at the report.
“Someone is trying to find out what you know.”
Victoria nodded.
“And they know I have evidence.”
Three days later, the federal team obtained a sealed financial report from a bank that had processed several Northstar payments.
The report showed transfers to a company called Blue Ridge Advisory.
Blue Ridge Advisory had no employees listed in state records.
Its registered address was a mailbox inside a commercial office building.
Yet the company had received more than $2.8 million in payments over eighteen months.
The largest payments had been approved by Northstar’s chief financial officer.
But the money didn’t stay there.
Within days, funds were transferred into personal accounts belonging to several individuals.
