Jaundice happens when bilirubin, a substance produced during the normal breakdown of red blood cells, builds up in the bloodstream.
A tumor in or near the head of the pancreas can sometimes block the bile duct, preventing bile from flowing normally.
Jaundice should not be ignored. Anyone who develops unexplained yellowing of the skin or eyes should seek medical evaluation.
7. Dark Urine
Urine that suddenly becomes much darker than usual can have several explanations.
Dehydration is a common cause, but dark urine can also occur when bilirubin levels rise because of problems involving the liver or bile ducts.
When dark urine occurs together with yellow skin or eyes, pale stools, abdominal discomfort, or unexplained itching, medical evaluation is particularly important.
The symptom itself does not establish a diagnosis, but it can be a reason to investigate what is happening.
