10. New or Worsening Diabetes
Changes in blood sugar can sometimes be associated with pancreatic disease.
The pancreas produces insulin, which plays a central role in controlling blood glucose. Problems affecting pancreatic cells can interfere with this process.
Some people with pancreatic cancer develop diabetes or experience changes in previously controlled diabetes.
However, diabetes is extremely common and usually has causes unrelated to pancreatic cancer.
The important point is that unexplained changes in blood sugar or newly diagnosed diabetes should be discussed with a healthcare professional, particularly when other symptoms are present.
11. Fatigue and Weakness
Persistent fatigue is another symptom that can be difficult to interpret.
Almost everyone feels tired occasionally. Lack of sleep, stress, overwork, anemia, infections, nutritional deficiencies, medications, and numerous medical conditions can cause fatigue.
Cancer can also cause fatigue because the disease may affect metabolism, appetite, sleep, and overall body function.
